The School Placement Process

Introductory Conversation

First, we will meet to talk through your particular goals, needs, and challenges for your child’s future education, as well as any questions you may have about my expertise, background, or approach. If we mutually decide we’re a great fit, we will move forward together.

Assessment + Preparation

This assessment and preparation stage will be uniquely tailored to your student. Commonly at this stage, I will meet with your child, review grades and transcripts, and collaborate closely with you on which schools we should consider for application.

Application + Selection

From private school admissions planning and interview exposure, to managing all touch points throughout the application and selection process, your white glove school placement experience with Zinn will be deeply personalized to your specific needs.

How Long We Will Work Together

On average, I work closely with families for approximately nine to 12 months, due to the lengthy nature of the school evaluation and admissions processes. Of course, I am happy to speak with you if your needs are of a more time-sensitive nature. While there may be limitations due to time constraints, we will explore if there are ways in which I may still be of service to you and your child.

Introductory Conversation

You’re ready to manage this process for your child’s next step in their learning journey. But you need an experienced guide to provide you with clear, strategic recommendations, support, and expertise throughout the process.

All-Inclusive

In addition to guidance and expertise, you’re looking for hands-on management of all communication touch points and admissions milestones throughout the process, so you can remain focused on supporting your child.

School Placement Retreats

We offer retreats for parents embarking upon the school placement process for their children. This restorative, all-inclusive experience offers the necessary focus and accessible expertise you need to complete the initial exploration of school placement options, as well as the development of your child’s school placement roadmap.

Instead of scattering your efforts in these areas over months, you’ll be able to lay the foundation for your school placement journey over the course of a few days.

Because I was placed in the perfect middle school and high school for me, I thrived and connected with my learning in a way that has inspired me for the entirety of my life. My love of learning has inspired every single choice I make in my life on a daily basis.  When your child is not connected in their learning environment, that door of life’s infinite possibilities becomes closed. If a child is not connected to their learning, they are set on a path toward lack of choice, lack of advocacy, and lack of being seen. So, it is of paramount importance to me that every child is given a chance to walk through that door. Because every child is capable of learning, regardless of learning difference, socioeconomic status, or race.

  • “Collette does an incredible job of authentically getting to know your child and your family. She spends time to understand what type of learner your child is, what their interests and their hobbies are. And then with her knowledge and experience of these independent schools, she’s able to recommend a best-fit school. Collette is (also) always there. She’s accessible – she and her team. I can call her anytime of the day. She responds incredibly well, digitally. She makes time – her entire team makes time for you.”

DEIA Catalyst + Educator

Many may know me as a fourth-generation educator who made the choice as a trained litigator to transition into the educational and DEIA spaces. For more than 20 years, I have passionately served as an “educational support conduit” for schools, classroom educators, parents, administrators, and the students they serve.

Today, as the founder of Zinn, The Onyx Movement, and Private School Axis, I seek to bring humanity, connection, and humility to the work of connecting children with learning, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accountability. Yes, there is work to be done, and I am excited to see what we can achieve together.
